SUMMARY:Balsam Bashing with Bandon Environmental Action Group - Cork
DESCRIPTION:As part of Invasive Species Week\, BEAG will be holding a Balsam Bashing event along the River Bandon on Sunday\, 28th June\, from 10:00am to 1:30pm (Approx). \nWe’ll be working together to remove Himalayan Balsam\, one of Ireland’s most widespread invasive plant species. Left unmanaged\, it can dominate riverbanks\, crowd out native plants and leave riverbanks vulnerable to erosion during winter due to it’s seasonal dieback . \nMeeting Point: Lidl Car Park\, Bandon (for car pooling) \nWhat to Bring:\n– Gardening or work gloves\n– Sturdy footwear or walking boots\n– Long trousers (essential due to nettles and brambles)\n– Long sleeves recommended\n– Water and snacks\n– Weather-appropriate clothing \nWe will be working along riverbanks and through areas of woodland vegetation\, so suitable outdoor clothing is important. \nNo experience is necessary. We will provide guidance on identification and safe removal techniques on the day. \nThis is always a rewarding and enjoyable event and makes a real difference to biodiversity along the River Bandon. We hope to see as many volunteers as possible there. \nPlease let us know if you can attend. \n  \nbandon.beag@gmail.com \n

SUMMARY:Volunteer with Killarney Mountain Meitheal - Kerry
DESCRIPTION:Join Killarney Mountain Meitheal for a hands-on volunteering session to tackle Rhododendron in Killarney National Park. \nClearing mature Rhododendron ponticum is only part of the process in restoring the native forest. To support full recovery of the native forest floor\, cleared areas need to be revisited over subsequent seasons to remove emerging seedlings before they establish and spread. Removing these small shoots helps ensure that previous clearance efforts are maintained and that native habitats have the best chance to recover. This work plays an important role in protecting Killarney’s biodiversity. \n\nVolunteers are needed to assist with this lighter\, “gardening-style” follow-up work.  It offers an accessible way to get involved with the Meitheal\, particularly for those who prefer a quieter\, less physically demanding pace. \nNo prior experience is needed—just bring sturdy footwear\, weather-appropriate clothing\, and a willingness to get stuck in. Training and guidance will be provided on the day. \n\n\nWhether you’re a regular or have never volunteered before\, you‘re welcome to join the community. \n\nThe Killarney Mountain Meitheal is an ongoing volunteer group that meets regularly and will continue its work throughout the summer—so this is a perfect chance to get involved and keep contributing beyond this one event.\n  \nMeeting Point: Entrance to Cloghereen Blue Pool \nTime: 10am – 12:30pm \n\n\n\n\nQueries can be directed to  info@KillarneyMountainMeitheal.com\n\n  \nFollow Killarney Mountain Meitheal on Instagram and Facebook for updates. \n

SUMMARY:Cherry Laurel Community Information Day - Clare
DESCRIPTION:We are inviting members of the public to join for a community day on Saturday\, 27th June as part of Invasive Species Week 2026. For the past 3 years\, with the help of volunteers\, we’ve been working to remove invasive Cherry Laurel along the river and planted over 4\,000 native saplings in its place. We will be speaking on our methodology and approach for removing this invasive species from The Glen. Cherry Laurel is one of Ireland’s most problematic invasive plant species. It spreads rapidly\, creating dense shade that suppresses native plants\, reduces biodiversity\, and prevents the natural regeneration of woodlands.
