DESCRIPTION:Join the Maigue Rivers Trust and the National Biodiversity Data Centre at Adare Heritage Centre as we officially launch Invasive Species Week 2026 and take part in a free  workshop facilitated by Streamscapes and Nature Network Ireland! \nOur Community Workshops give local residents\, groups and volunteers the knowledge to help prevent the spread of invasive species in the Maigue catchment. Workshops will explain what invasive species are\, why they threaten native wildlife\, habitats\, riverbanks\, water quality and human health\, and how they spread through everyday activities. Native to Southeast Asia\, the Asian hornet has spread across continental Europe and poses significant ecological risk. This invasive species preys on native pollinators\, and its nests can devastate honeybee populations. Management efforts have so far prevented its establishment\, making ongoing public reporting and early detection particularly crucial \nThis session features a short lively talk\, clear identification tips\, real specimens\, and a fun quiz to help demystify hornets\, wasps\, bees\, and flies. Ample time will be provided for questions and practical advice on photographing insects with your phone.
