SUMMARY:Invasive Species Week Launch & Workshop: Stop the Spread: Protecting the Maigue River Catchment from Invasive Species - Limerick
DESCRIPTION:Join the Maigue Rivers Trust and the National Biodiversity Data Centre at Adare Heritage Centre as we officially launch Invasive Species Week 2026 and take part in a free  workshop facilitated by Streamscapes and Nature Network Ireland! \nOur Community Workshops give local residents\, groups and volunteers the knowledge to help prevent the spread of invasive species in the Maigue catchment. Workshops will explain what invasive species are\, why they threaten native wildlife\, habitats\, riverbanks\, water quality and human health\, and how they spread through everyday activities. Participants will learn practical biosecurity actions\, responsible garden waste disposal\, how to respond safely to plants such as Giant hogweed\, and how early reporting can support rapid action. \nThe workshop is divided into two parts: a 90-minute indoor session featuring an engaging presentation\, followed by a 90-minute outdoor field experience at a nearby river. \nThis event is part of the Maigue Rivers Trust & StreamScapes summer workshop series ‘Stop the Spread: Protecting the Maigue River Catchment from invasive species’. \nFor information on more events visit streamscapes.ie/education/stopthespread. \nNo registration needed\, free and open to all. \nMore information at the link below.

SUMMARY:Workshop: Asian Hornet Talk and Identification Workshop - Cork
DESCRIPTION:Join Ann Haigh\, Invasive Species Officer at the National Biodiversity Data Centre\, for an engaging and hands‑on Asian Hornet Talk and Identification Workshop that will give you the confidence to spot and report this high‑risk invasive insect. \nWith Ireland’s freedom from Asian hornet depending entirely on early detection\, learning how to recognise it and\, just as importantly\, how to rule out common look‑alikes has never been more vital. Native to Southeast Asia\, the Asian hornet has spread across continental Europe and poses significant ecological risk. This invasive species preys on native pollinators\, and its nests can devastate honeybee populations. Management efforts have so far prevented its establishment\, making ongoing public reporting and early detection particularly crucial \nThis session features a short lively talk\, clear identification tips\, real specimens\, and a fun quiz to help demystify hornets\, wasps\, bees\, and flies. Ample time will be provided for questions and practical advice on photographing insects with your phone. Weather permitting\, you will also have the chance to head outside to put your new skills into practice. \nYou will leave knowing exactly what to look for\, how to report a sighting\, and how you can help keep Ireland free of Asian hornet. \nImage credit: John De Carteret\, JAHG \n\nRegister at link below.
