SUMMARY:Webinar: INNS on the Tees
DESCRIPTION:Local Action Groups across Great Britain (GB) play a key role in reducing the impact of invasive non-native species\, from awareness raising and biosecurity support\, to managing widespread species and providing volunteering opportunities for the local community. \nThe Tees Catchment is home to a rich variety of wildlife and habitats\, but invasive non-native species pose a significant threat to its biodiversity and heritage. Tees Rivers Trust is a catchment-based organisation\, working from source to sea to protect\, improve and celebrate the River Tees through practical restoration\, habitat improvements\, education and engagement. \nINNS have been a core thread running through the Trust’s work since 2012\, and they are currently in the development phase of an exciting new project: the Tees Invasive Species Project (TISP)\, which will continue building on this long-term commitment. \nJoin this webinar hosted by the GB Non-native Species Secretariat to learn more about: \n\nINNS issues affecting the Tees Catchment.\nHow the Trust is tackling the problem through catchment-wide delivery and collaboration.\nWhat’s planned for the Tees Invasive Species Project — and how you can get involved.\n\nWith a speaker from Tees Rivers Trust. \nReserve your spot at the link below.

SUMMARY:Webinar: When species do establish - managing aquatic plant invasions
DESCRIPTION:Water primrose was introduced to Britain as an ornamental aquatic plant but has since been recorded in a number of natural waterbodies in Britain. Invasive aquatic plants are a particular problem due to the speed at which they can spread in a natural water body and the impact they can have on important aquatic habitats. \nJoin this webinar with the Environment Agency to learn: \n\nhow the Environment Agency is managing water primrose\nwhy preventing new outbreaks is so important\n\nReserve your spot at the link below.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Horizon scanning for invasive non-native species: future threats and why prevention is key
DESCRIPTION:The UK has a number of targets to protect the environment and biodiversity and prevent the introduction and establishment of invasive non-native species. \nWith new non-native species becoming established each year\, it is crucial that we are able to predict in advance which species are likely to be introduced\, establish\, spread and have an adverse impact. Horizon scanning to identify new threats is a key element in prevention and is extremely important for guiding our efforts on risk analysis\, pathway management and contingency planning. \nJoin this webinar hosted by the GB Non-native Species Secretariat to learn about: \n\na recent horizon scanning exercise to identify future non-native species threats to Great Britain (GB)\ntargets for preventing the introduction and establishment of invasive non-native species\n\nWith speakers from: \n\nThe UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology\nDefra\n\nReserve your spot at the link below.

SUMMARY:Workshop: Understanding Aquatic Invasive Species
DESCRIPTION:Join Galway City Council for  an interactive and informative workshop exploring the growing issue of aquatic invasive species—what they are\, why they matter\, and how we can help prevent their spread. \nTrainers: \n🌱 Phoebe O’Brien – A well-known botanist with a passion for education \n🌱 Dr. Fran Giaquinto – A plant ecologist who has specialised in invasive species management since 2010 \nTogether\, they have co-authored the newly released Identification Guide to Non-Native Invasive Plants of Britain and Ireland\, published by Pelagic Publishers in April 2025. \n🌱 The event is supported by Galway City Council’s Biodiversity Officer Paula Kearney\, delivering actions of the Galway City Invasive Alien Species Strategy\, co funded by the NPWS Local Biodiversity Action Fund. \nThis is a valuable opportunity for anyone interested in protecting local waterways and want to learn from three thought-leaders in the field. \nFor further information\, please email Paula Kearney: paula.kearney@galwaycity.ie \nAll are welcome – no registration required.
