SUMMARY:Invasive Species Week Launch & Workshop: Stop the Spread: Protecting the Maigue River Catchment from Invasive Species
DESCRIPTION:Join the Maigue Rivers Trust and the National Biodiversity Data Centre at Adare Heritage Centre as we officially launch Invasive Species Week 2026 and take part in a free  workshop facilitated by Streamscapes and Nature Network Ireland! \nOur Community Workshops give local residents\, groups and volunteers the knowledge to help prevent the spread of invasive species in the Maigue catchment. Workshops will explain what invasive species are\, why they threaten native wildlife\, habitats\, riverbanks\, water quality and human health\, and how they spread through everyday activities. Participants will learn practical biosecurity actions\, responsible garden waste disposal\, how to respond safely to plants such as Giant hogweed\, and how early reporting can support rapid action. \nThe workshop is divided into two parts: a 90-minute indoor session featuring an engaging presentation\, followed by a 90-minute outdoor field experience at a nearby river. \nThis event is part of the Maigue Rivers Trust & StreamScapes summer workshop series ‘Stop the Spread: Protecting the Maigue River Catchment from invasive species’. \nFor information on more events visit streamscapes.ie/education/stopthespread. \nNo registration needed\, free and open to all. \nMore information at the link below.

SUMMARY:Webinar: INNS on the Tees
DESCRIPTION:Local Action Groups across Great Britain (GB) play a key role in reducing the impact of invasive non-native species\, from awareness raising and biosecurity support\, to managing widespread species and providing volunteering opportunities for the local community. \nThe Tees Catchment is home to a rich variety of wildlife and habitats\, but invasive non-native species pose a significant threat to its biodiversity and heritage. Tees Rivers Trust is a catchment-based organisation\, working from source to sea to protect\, improve and celebrate the River Tees through practical restoration\, habitat improvements\, education and engagement. \nINNS have been a core thread running through the Trust’s work since 2012\, and they are currently in the development phase of an exciting new project: the Tees Invasive Species Project (TISP)\, which will continue building on this long-term commitment. \nJoin this webinar hosted by the GB Non-native Species Secretariat to learn more about: \n\nINNS issues affecting the Tees Catchment.\nHow the Trust is tackling the problem through catchment-wide delivery and collaboration.\nWhat’s planned for the Tees Invasive Species Project — and how you can get involved.\n\nWith a speaker from Tees Rivers Trust. \nReserve your spot at the link below.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Invasive herpetofauna in the Caribbean UK Overseas Territories and wider Caribbean Region
DESCRIPTION:The impacts of invasive non-native species on small islands are often much worse than elsewhere as native flora and fauna have evolved in isolation from predators\, competitors\, and diseases. As a result\, native species are less able to compete and defend themselves in the face of new threats. \nJoin this webinar hosted by the GB Non-native Species Secretariat to learn: \n\nabout the issues facing the Caribbean and the Caribbean UKOTs due to the spread of invasive reptiles from Florida\nhow the Cayman Islands Government are working to protect native biodiversity across the Cayman Islands\n\nWith speakers from Natural Selections of South Florida and the Cayman Islands Government. \n  \nReserve your spot at the link below.

SUMMARY:Webinar: When species do establish - managing aquatic plant invasions
DESCRIPTION:Water primrose was introduced to Britain as an ornamental aquatic plant but has since been recorded in a number of natural waterbodies in Britain. Invasive aquatic plants are a particular problem due to the speed at which they can spread in a natural water body and the impact they can have on important aquatic habitats. \nJoin this webinar with the Environment Agency to learn: \n\nhow the Environment Agency is managing water primrose\nwhy preventing new outbreaks is so important\n\nReserve your spot at the link below.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Invasive non-native species: why they are a problem and how to help protect your sport and the environment
DESCRIPTION:Invasive non-native species (plants and animals) can cause serious environmental problems that can be irreversible and interfere with the activities you enjoy by damaging boats\, killing fish\, and blocking up waterways making it hard to fish or use them for paddling and boating. \nIn support of Invasive Species Week 2025\, The Angling Trust\, British Rowing\, Paddle UK\, and the Royal Yachting Association are holding a joint webinar for all recreational water users to raise awareness of this issue and how water users can help. \nJoin this webinar hosted by the GB Non-native Species Secretariat to learn about: \n\nwhat invasive non-native species are\, and why they are a problem for recreational water users\nhow National Governing Bodies are working together to protect your sport and the environment\nhow clubs are helping to protect the waters they use\, and what you can do to help\n\nWith speakers from: \n\nThe Angling Trust\nBritish Rowing\nGB Non-native Species Secretariat\nPaddle UK\nThe Royal Yachting Association\n\nReserve your spot at the link below.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Horizon scanning for invasive non-native species: future threats and why prevention is key
DESCRIPTION:The UK has a number of targets to protect the environment and biodiversity and prevent the introduction and establishment of invasive non-native species. \nWith new non-native species becoming established each year\, it is crucial that we are able to predict in advance which species are likely to be introduced\, establish\, spread and have an adverse impact. Horizon scanning to identify new threats is a key element in prevention and is extremely important for guiding our efforts on risk analysis\, pathway management and contingency planning. \nJoin this webinar hosted by the GB Non-native Species Secretariat to learn about: \n\na recent horizon scanning exercise to identify future non-native species threats to Great Britain (GB)\ntargets for preventing the introduction and establishment of invasive non-native species\n\nWith speakers from: \n\nThe UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology\nDefra\n\nReserve your spot at the link below.
