SUMMARY:Workshop: Understanding Aquatic Invasive Species
DESCRIPTION:Join Galway City Council for  an interactive and informative workshop exploring the growing issue of aquatic invasive species—what they are\, why they matter\, and how we can help prevent their spread. \nTrainers: \n🌱 Phoebe O’Brien – A well-known botanist with a passion for education \n🌱 Dr. Fran Giaquinto – A plant ecologist who has specialised in invasive species management since 2010 \nTogether\, they have co-authored the newly released Identification Guide to Non-Native Invasive Plants of Britain and Ireland\, published by Pelagic Publishers in April 2025. \n🌱 The event is supported by Galway City Council’s Biodiversity Officer Paula Kearney\, delivering actions of the Galway City Invasive Alien Species Strategy\, co funded by the NPWS Local Biodiversity Action Fund. \nThis is a valuable opportunity for anyone interested in protecting local waterways and want to learn from three thought-leaders in the field. \nFor further information\, please email Paula Kearney: paula.kearney@galwaycity.ie \nAll are welcome – no registration required.

Learn how to recognise invasive species\, understand their effects on biodiversity\, and take part in a live experiment aimed at restoring native ecosystems. \nFacilitated by Ecologist John O’Sullivan\, this event is run in collaboration with Cork Nature Network as part of Invasive Species Week. \nWhat to Bring:\nThis event will take place primarily outdoors\, so please come prepared for the weather.
