Esk Volunteer Day: Invasive Species Sweep including Fireside Lunch

We’re running our second volunteer day of the year on Sunday 28th June as part of Invasive Species Week 2026. Join us for an Invasive Species Sweep of the lower slopes of Esk Mountain. We have six non-native alien invasive plant species on our hit list: Rhododendron ponticum, Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora (Montbretia), Bamboo spp, Griselinia littoralis, Leycesteria formosa (Himalayan honeysuckle) & Picea sitchensis (Sitka spruce). We will be digging, cutting & treating the species listed & where appropriate recycling the removed material. This might include feeding plant material to our Tamworth pigs or making it into wood chip.
This volunteer day includes a 2-course fireside lunch in the middle of the day as a thank you – book your spot as spaces limited to just 12.
- Learn how to identify these six non-native alien invasive plant species & how to effectively remove them.
- Be part of helping restore nature on Esk Mountain
- Learn about the ecology of the site & wider landscape
- Lunch will include a hearty savoury dish, dessert & drinks
