Regulated Invasive Plants
We are delighted to announce the publication of the 3rd edition of “Identification Guide to Ireland’s Regulated Invasive Alien Plant Species” which is now free to view online and to download.
A number of legal instruments regulate invasive species on the island of Ireland. These species must be controlled to prevent further spread.
This guide presents a species account for each of those regulated plant species with photos, identification features, seasonal variation, regulation and impact level listing, mechanisms of reproduction, dispersal and spread – plus much more. For some species there is also a separate table for the key differences between similar or confusion species.
This new edition includes profiles for German-ivy (Delairea odorata), Paper mulberry (Broussonetia papyrifera) and Black wattle (Acacia mearnsii).
This guide is suitable for use in both Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Important note
In 2015 there were some minor amendments made to Ireland’s Third Schedule species list from the 2011 published list. These are as follows:

14. The Third Schedule of the Regulations of 2011 is amended by:

(1) Removing all text in the row containing the species “Water Lettuce”“Pistia stratiotes” from Part 1 of the Schedule.

||
|
(2) Amending “Elodea” in the Second column of Part 1 of the Schedule to read “Elodea (all species except Elodea canadensis)”.
|
||
|
(3) Amending “Carp” in the First column of Part 2 of the Schedule to read “Carp (except Koi Carp)” and in the Second column to read “Cyprinus carpio (except Koi varieties of Cyprinus carpio)”.
