Volunteer with Killarney Mountain Meitheal

June 28 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm
Free

Join Killarney Mountain Meitheal for a hands-on volunteering session to tackle Rhododendron in Killarney National Park.

Clearing mature Rhododendron ponticum is only part of the process in restoring the native forest. To support full recovery of the native forest floor, cleared areas need to be revisited over subsequent seasons to remove emerging seedlings before they establish and spread. Removing these small shoots helps ensure that previous clearance efforts are maintained and that native habitats have the best chance to recover. This work plays an important role in protecting Killarney’s biodiversity.

Volunteers are needed to assist with this lighter, “gardening-style” follow-up work.  It offers an accessible way to get involved with the Meitheal, particularly for those who prefer a quieter, less physically demanding pace.

No prior experience is needed—just bring sturdy footwear, weather-appropriate clothing, and a willingness to get stuck in. Training and guidance will be provided on the day.

Whether you’re a regular or have never volunteered before, you‘re welcome to join the community.

The Killarney Mountain Meitheal is an ongoing volunteer group that meets regularly and will continue its work throughout the summer—so this is a perfect chance to get involved and keep contributing beyond this one event.
