Webinar: Mapping Invasive Aquatic Plant Species: Launching a Citizen Science Recording Tool
June 26 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
Free

NEIS-bio “Natural extractives from Invasive Species and Biobased Solutions” is a 2-year Research Ireland funded project based in ATU Sligo and lead by the head of the Environmental Science Department- Salem Gharbia. Currently in our first year, our aim is to address a gap in recordings of aquatic invasive plant species by taking on a citizen science approach to mapping. We have created a website for citizens like you to log real life observations of 7 key aquatic plant species. Once an observation is submitted, the location will pop up on a live map and all citizen observations will be verified and added to the NBDC database. The 7 key aquatic species our project aims to map are: Nuttall’s waterweed, curly waterweed, Fringed Waterlily, New Zealand pigmy weed, Least duckweed, American Skunk Cabbage and Japanese Wireweed.
If you’d like to take part on recording invasive species around Sligo Co., please consider joining this webinar and look at our website- complete with a live leaderboard and map of real-time observations: https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/4ed69edb55cb4131bd32e34596ff74bc
