The UK has a number of targets to protect the environment and biodiversity and prevent the introduction and establishment of invasive non-native species.

With new non-native species becoming established each year, it is crucial that we are able to predict in advance which species are likely to be introduced, establish, spread and have an adverse impact. Horizon scanning to identify new threats is a key element in prevention and is extremely important for guiding our efforts on risk analysis, pathway management and contingency planning.
