Shared Island BISI
The Shared Island Biosecurity and Invasive Species initiative provides a framework to coordinate effective response to the threat posed by invasive species.
By adopting a Shared Island approach, the initiative seeks to reduce the financial burden on both administrations, north and south.
The key deliverables of the initiative are: a strategic all-island risk assessment and trend analysis on invasive species; a biosecurity awareness strategy and plan; catchment level coordination across our shared river basin districts; all-island alignment of both current and future pathway action and contingency plans; a citizen science invasive species programme; and establishment of the Shared Island Biosecurity and Invasive Species Stakeholder Forum.
The five-year initiative is funded by the Government of Ireland’s Shared Island Initiative; the Northern Ireland Environment Agency; and the National Parks and Wildlife Service. The initiative is also co-funded and implemented by the National Biodiversity Data Centre.
